Demonstrating that it is better to give than to receive, Manekin, LLC, along with 157 subcontractors and vendors, raised $44,039 for charity at the company’s annual subcontractors party.

The funds will support 30 non-profit organizations in Anne Arundel, Baltimore, Carroll, Charles, Cecil, Frederick, Harford, Howard, Montgomery and Prince George’s counties; Baltimore City and Central Maryland (see attached list).

For 25 years, Manekin has hosted an annual event to thank its construction subcontractors who have helped the company achieve success. The event has grown to become a Manekin party thanking all vendors company wide.

In conjunction with the party, contributions have been collected for distribution to local non-profit organizations. The cumulative amount raised is approximately $688,000.

“The subcontractors party represents part of a long history of giving back to the communities where we do business,” said Richard Alter, Manekin’s president and CEO.

“We carry on the tradition which was founded 63 years ago by Bernard and Harold Manekin,” Alter added. “I am proud and humbled by the generosity of the associates of Manekin. It is heartening to continue to receive donations despite these tough economic times.”

In 2008, cash and in-kind donations by Manekin and its employees totaled $405,680. The company previously won the Maryland Business Philanthropy Award for its commitment to improving Marylanders’ quality of life through philanthropic efforts.
