COLUMBIA, Md. (Oct. 31, 2008) – Manekin, LLC’s corporate headquarters at 8601 Robert Fulton Dr., in Columbia, was featured in Buildings Magazine’s recent Project Innovations issue. The magazine recognized projects that met design/construction challenges and featured creativity and aesthetics, as well as function and performance characteristics.

Manekin, LLC was the developer, Manekin Construction the general contractor, Brasher Design the architect, Spears Votta the mechanical electrical and plumbing engineer, and Gutschick, Little & Weberthe civil engineer. Lorax Partnerships and Advanced Building Performance, Inc. were the LEED consultants.

Despite such challenges as creating a curtainwall that would withstand extreme wind loads, achieving the least intrusive corner mullion and installing specialized aluminum composite panels, the project was completed on time within a tight seven-month schedule.

With neo-traditional architecture, the two-story, 51,345-square-foot structure features a sloped two-story green tinted glass curtain wall on both ends of the building, a curved aluminum two-story entrance feature with glass canopy, and brick exterior façade between green tinted spandrel and vision glass.

The salmon-colored brick theme is carried into the interior finishes through the use of cherry wood paneling covering the walls in the lobby and throughout the Manekin tenant space accented by a patterned terrazzo floor and a barreled lobby ceiling. Manekin occupies 34,000 square feet of space and leases the additional space.

Manekin’s space houses all its corporate functions, as well as approximately 100 of the firm’s 160 employees. Interior amenities include digital signage in the lobby, seven conference rooms – each with upgrad
